ZRDC Special Scholarship for Capacity Building (ZSSCB)
Zambia Research and Development
Centre (ZRDC) has received support from the international community
“ESF (European Science Foundation) and IITA (Institute for
Information Technology Assessment)” to enable it strengthen the
Research and Development base. Therefore, ZRDC has embarked on a
scholarship program (ZRDC Special Scholarship for Capacity Building)
to facilitate Knowledge Advancement among ZRDC Researchers and those
who intend to join the research community. The ZSSCB (ZRDC Special
Scholarship for Capacity Building) will enable qualified young
Zambians attain education in prestigious Universities abroad
(Canada, Australia and South Korea), and have guaranteed future
prospects of joining the ZRDC research community.
Eligibility:

2008 Workshop enabling Knowledge Management
The main objective of this workshop is to build capacities in
Cooperate entities for Knowledge management. The workshop training
focuses on Strengthening IT capacities in organizations to
Facilitate Knowledge management. This enables organizations and
cooperate business entities close knowledge gaps by providing
knowledge as foundation of innovation and creation of new
departmental capabilities. Knowledge management is aimed at
preventing the loss of intellectual capital.

THE RHODES
SCHOLARSHIPS:
(i) The Rhodes
Scholarships were
founded by the Will
of Cecil Rhodes.
This year is the
centenary of the
Scholarships.
Throughout their
history the
Scholarships have
been highly regarded
for the achievements
of the men and women
who have held them.
There are normally
92 Rhodes Scholars
selected worldwide
each year.
(ii) A Rhodes
Scholarship is a
financial award
normally tenable at
the University of
Oxford, the
University at which
Cecil Rhodes himself
studied. The
Scholarship covers
full time study and
pays the tuition
fees required by the
University and
College as well as a
living allowance.
Presently the
stipend is not less
than £820 per month.
The Scholarship also
pays the cost of
your transport to
Oxford and from
Oxford at the
completion of your
course. Tenure of
other awards in
conjunction with the
Scholarship is not
permitted without
the prior
authorisation of the
CEO of the Rhodes
Trust, the Warden of
Rhodes House.

Information and
Communications University (ICU)
Currently ICU
admits international students at the graduate level only
while transfer students are allowed in the undergraduate
programs as well. The graduate programs consist of
engineering and business areas, both of which focus on IT.
ICU boasts of excellent faculty with extensive industrial
and research experiences, highly-challenging academic
programs, superior research centers, state-of-the-art
facilities, 100% employment rate, and financial support for
all international students. The types of financial
support available for international students are Samsung
Electronics Scholarship, Korean government scholarships, and
research assistantships.
Graduate applicants are required to submit a study plan,
copies of diplomas, official transcripts, and two letters of
recommendation among others. Non-native English speakers
must show a proof of English proficiency by submitting a
minimum TOEFL score of 550 (CBT 213) or IELTS score of 6.0,
for English is the main instructional language at
ICU. ICU's institutional code of TOEFL/GRE/GMAT is 4558.
The application deadlines are October 31 for the spring term

There are two types of financial support available at
ICU: scholarships and assistantships. By submitting your
application to an ICU graduate program, you are
automatically applying for the financial support provided by
ICU, its associated organizations, and government agencies.
You can also get a recommendation letter from ZRDC if you're
a member. A pertinent university committee will determine
which applicants to apply for what type of scholarship;
individual professors decide which applicants to receive
research assistantships. The following information on
financial support is effective as of August 2005, and the
terms are subject to change.
Samsung Electronics Scholarships (SES)
1. Intended for incoming master's and doctoral students in
both engineering and management
2. Qualifications: Determined by Samsung Electronics
3. Duration of support: 2 years for master's students and 4
years for doctoral students
4. Amount of scholarship: 12,400,000 Korean won* per year
5. Number of beneficiaries: 15 master's students & 15
doctoral students per year
6. Scholarship payment: within a month after the beginning
of each term (approximately March for the spring term;
September for the fall term)
7. Obligations & Others: Recipients need to maintain GPA
(grade point average) B (3.0/4.5) or above. Recipients also
required to work at Samsung Electronics (at the basic annual
salary of $30,000 USD & housing provided) for the duration
of receiving scholarship after graduation from ICU. Working
location - the principle is for recipients to work in Korea.

Technological Policy (ITTP) Program
1. Sponsor: Korean Ministry of Information &
Communication (MIC)
2. Starting date: spring 2006
3. Support details: tuition, airfare, initial moving and
re-location expenses, living expenses and medical insurance
4. Qualifications: public officials, employees of public
institutions, college professors, or senior-level
researchers at national research centers working in the IT
fields, with a bachelor's or master's degree; TOEFL PBT 500/CBT
173 or corresponding English proficiency
5. Duration of support: 2 years for master's; 3 years for
doctoral studies
6. Application deadline: December 31st, 2005 for 2006; the
deadline may change after 2006.

Research Assistantship
Students in the graduate programs generally receive
research assistantships by participating in research
projects. The amounts vary, but students may earn an average
stipend of approximately $400/month.
Teaching Assistantship
Students have opportunities to receive teaching
assistantships by serving as graduate assistants for courses
and computer/network administration.
Internship
Students can earn monthly stipend by participating
in internship at research institutions and corporations
through the Internship Research Program.
