COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS TENABLE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

Applications are usually invited from suitably qualified Zambians to contest for commonwealth scholarships tenable in the United Kingdom for every academic year byway of adverts in the print media around September/October.
 
Available are Undergraduate and Post graduate (Masters and PhD) Scholarships in any field

Eligibility

• Candidates must be Zambian citizens

• They should hold a first degree of at least upper second class honours obtained at least in the past 10 years

• Candidates applying for Business and/or Management and Economics should obtain Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) respectively.

Awards Available

• One year taught masters courses or equivalent;

• Six months of clinical training in medicine or dentistry

• Doctoral or equivalent degrees of up to three years

Fields of Study

Whilst the awards are open to all subjects of study, preference is given to candidates whose areas of work address the following:

• Poverty Alleviation

• Economic Reform Support

• Productive Capacity Enhancement

• Good Governance

• Promotion of Human Development Including Education and Health

• Promotion of Status of Women

• Problems of the Environment

Preference may change depending on the offer in that particular year

Method of Application

Letter of application in response to an advert in the print media should state clearly the field of study desired, age and names, and address of three referees.

Students would be expected to enclose photocopies of educational certificates, transcripts, curriculum vitae and contact telephone numbers. Where offers of admission have been obtained from a university in the United Kingdom, these should be included with the applications. Those in employment should enclose recommendation letters from their employers that they would take up the offers.

THE RHODES SCHOLARSHIPS:

(i) The Rhodes Scholarships were founded by the Will of Cecil Rhodes. This year is the centenary of the Scholarships. Throughout their history the Scholarships have been highly regarded for the achievements of the men and women who have held them. There are normally 92 Rhodes Scholars selected worldwide each year.
(ii) A Rhodes Scholarship is a financial award normally tenable at the University of Oxford, the University at which Cecil Rhodes himself studied. The Scholarship covers full time study and pays the tuition fees required by the University and College as well as a living allowance.
Presently the stipend is not less than £820 per month. The Scholarship also pays the cost of your transport to Oxford and from Oxford at the completion of your course. Tenure of other awards in conjunction with the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior authorisation of the CEO of the Rhodes Trust, the Warden of Rhodes House.

Submission of Applications

All applicants shall submit the following:
• A fullycompleted application form
• A certified copy of birth certificate (or affidavit of birth)
• A certified copy of National Registration Card (NRC) or passport
• Certified copies of certificates showing formal academic achievements.
• Officially certified transcripts of courses and results at the university level.
• Curriculum Vitae, showing details on school career; college or university career, with details of any involvement in student or community affairs, cultural, sporting or political activities, plus any other significant achievements or involvements.

All shortlisted applicants shall be informed accordingly and shall be invited to appear before the Selection Committee for Zambia subject to the submission of the following additional documentation:
• A medical certificate on the prescribed form (that confirms the candidate’s physical and mental fitness)
• A signed statement (up to two pages only) in which the applicant explains the background of his/her general interests and activities, how they plan to spend their time at Oxford, and what they plan to do with your life upon completion of studies in Oxford.
• Two recent 6” x 4” colour photographs of the applicant (head and shoulders only).

RUSSIAN FEDERATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications are usually invited from suitably qualified Zambians to contest for scholarships under the Russian Federation around January/February.

Available are Undergraduate and Post graduate (Masters and PhD) Scholarships in any field

Eligibility

Undergraduates

• Zambian citizen

• Minimum Grades B in main subjects

• Maximum age - 25 years

Postgraduate – Masters and PhD

• Zambian citizen

• Distinction or merit at first degree

• Maximum age – 35 years for masters

• 39 years for PhD

Conditions of the Scholarship

Candidates should meet own costs towards

• Expenses to and from the airport and to the Russian University upon arrival in Moscow

• Departure fees

• Medical fees

• Clothing

• Any shortfall not adequately covered by the scholarship

Available are undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships in any fields.

Eligibility

Undergraduates

• School leaver

• Grades 1-4 in Science subjects including Maths

• Maximum age  - 24 years

Postgraduate – Masters and PhD

• Zambian citizen

• Distinction or merit at first degree

• Maximum age – 34 years for masters, 40 years for PhD

Applications are usually invited from suitably qualified Zambians to contest for the scholarships under the commonwealth by way of adverts in the print media around October/November.
 
Available are Masters and PhD Scholarships in any field other than medicine, dentistry, clinical training, MBA programmes, and post doctoral studies.

Eligibility

-   Candidates must be Zambian citizens
-   Minimum upper second class or merit degree
-   Must have obtained university degree within the last five years

Conditions

1.       Candidates should meet own costs towards

(i)       Expenses to and from the airport

• Departure fees

(iii)     Any shortfall not adequately covered by the scholarship

2.       The Canadian Commonwealth and Fellowship Programme will cover

• Tuition

• Maintenance allowance

• Medical and hospital expenses

• Book allowance

• Return economy air passage

Available are undergraduate scholarships in selected fields.

Eligibility

• Zambian citizen

• Grades 1-4 in five subjects including maths and science

• Maximum age  -25 years at commencement of the academic year.

This is dependent on the programme pursued however, all include 1 year of Spanish language. This training ranges from 5 – 8 years.

INDIAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications are usually invited from suitably qualified Zambians to contest for the scholarships under the Indian Government through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under three schemes:

• The Commonwealth Scholarship/Fellowship Plan (CSFP)

• The General Cultural Scholarship Scheme (GCSS)

• The Special Indian Scholarship Scheme (SISS)

by way of adverts in the print media around January/February.

Available are undergraduate and postgraduate (masters and PhD) scholarships in any field except in the field of MBBS/BDS and courses related to medicine.

Eligibility

Undergraduates

• Zambian citizen

• Minimum of two ‘A” levels

• No age limit but principally not more than 25 years

Postgraduate – Masters and PhD

• Zambian citizen

• Upper merit at first degree

• No age limit but principally not more than 35 years for masters and 40 years for PhD

(iii)     Any shortfall not adequately covered by the scholarship

Duration

This is dependent on the programme pursued. The language of instruction is English

• 4-5 years for undergraduate

• 2-5 years for postgraduate
