»Cultivating the Culture of Engineering in Schools

This is an on-going project, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, in which ZRDC has setup Engineering Information Access Centers (EIAC) in three pilot high schools. These centers act as points of access for mentoring programs to encourage students take-up engineering careers, and bring about adequate capacity building in engineering fields.


»Early Child Development / Education
Aimed to generate relevant information to support the Government of Zambia in the formulation of workable and sustainable policies for early childhood education. The study also focuses on an examination of the linkages between various levels of education and the workplace in Zambia. ZRDC assistance to improve education have been on-going in High School mathematics and science education.  Major tasks of this mission are to: (i) reconfirm experiences, lessons learned, and encountered problems through the High School Teacher Training Project in Science and Mathematics; (ii) collect recent information for basic and High school education, as well as teacher training in tertiary education in the science and mathematics fields; and (iii) formulate recommendations for future support in science and mathematics by establishing a mid/long-term support strategy.

»Vocational and Technology Education
This project aimed at increasing the number of surveying technicians and engineers as well as their associated skills. ZRDC, assessed the project in terms of: (i) the extent to which the objective was achieved; (ii) project impact and benefit (direct and indirect, positive and negative); (iii) efficiency in implementation; (iv) adequacy of the original plan from the perspective at the time of project completion; and (v) prospects and risks for project sustainability and project implementation from institutional, financial and technical aspects.
The program consisted of the following three components: (i) institutional strengthening of the Department of Vocational Education; (ii) procurement of educational equipment for technical colleges in particular the Technical and Vocational Training College (TVTC) under the Department of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education; and (iii) provision of teacher training programs for teaching staff.

»Overall Education Sector Development
The survey aimed to identify potential areas in the education sector, that need development. ZRDC was responsible for gathering and assessing basic information on: (i) the national plan for education development and the education system (non-formal, pre-school, primary, secondary, higher, vocational and technical education, and training); (ii) educational planning and administration; (iii) education financing; (iv) teacher education and training; and (v) development of curricula and learning materials.
